The Dunajec River Gorge

Traditional Rafting down the Dunajec River Gorge

The trip on the wooden raft down the Dunajec River is a must-have on the summer program of stay in Zakopane or the surrounding area. It is organized from April to October, from 9.00 to 16.00 (in July and August from 8.30 to 17.00).

INFORMATION ABOUT ATTRACTION

The ride to the town of Sromowce Kąty (rafting start station) takes about one hour (50km). The rafting itself, depending on the water level in the Dunajec, lasts from 2 to 3 hours – during this time, the rafts flow down to Szczawnica, covering a distance of 18km. Tourists who came with their own car, once they float to Szczawnica, they can get on minibusses or buses, which will take them back to the parking lot in Sromowce Kąty. On sunny days during the holidays, rafting is worth going early in the morning to avoid waiting in line for tickets and then for free rafts.

For families with older (over 10 years) children, I recommend rafting on the Dunajec River on inflatable boats. This slightly more expensive version of the trip, but it will provide everyone a sufficient amount of adrenaline.
From Zakopane, daily trips are organized on the rafting down the Dunajec river gorge. You have a chance not only to float down on a wooden raft or a boat, but also you will see the castle and dam in Niedzica and the historic church in Dębno. Personally, we recommend the company splyw.pl, which does not merely provide a regular transfer, but professionally organizes the whole day with additional attractions.
